La Spezia’s traditional flavours become territorial messengers

Nowadays, even more than long ago, tourists and travellers are attracted by good food. La Spezia, a territory where culinary art is deep-rooted and which boasts top quality food, decided to rely on the food-and-wine sector as an instrument for a successful tourist promotion both in Italy and abroad.

For this reason, La Spezia Chamber of Commerce was ready to participate in the project led by Matera Chamber of Commerce.

This project aims at joining forces, enhancing the “Mediterranean Diet” heritage, creating a “memory archive” to fix and preserve symbolic recipes. It is a unique opportunity to give voice – and even a “face” – to the countless small realities on La Spezia’s territory – all of them submitting genuine food and enthusiast welcoming as their own business cards.

Food and wine enthusiasts – all of them deeply interested, well informed and highly demanding – repay the diligence, passion and ancient knowledge on our tables.

Tourists easily identify excellence and therefore address to where they can find it: culture, nature, food and wine become three key guide elements when they decide their journeys’ destinations. La Spezia is rich in culture, nature, and food and wine.

Here they have a chance to discover the Mediterranean Diet flavours and virtues.

It is not to be understood as a simple, healthy and complete diet, but as a lifestyle or better as “a set of skills, knowledge, practices and traditions ranging from the landscape to the table”: this is the motivation given by UNESCO when inscribing the “Mediterranean Diet” on the World Heritage List. In fact it “promotes social interaction and it has given rise to a considerable body of knowledge, songs, maxims, tales and legends”. It is therefore an invaluable heritage to be discovered and spread all over the world.
